Mission statement

Partners in the NVFS are the non-profit scientific societies and organisations, that are active in the field of sexology in Flanders and in The Netherlands. Momentary participants in the NVFS are:
1.	the Dutch Society for Sexology [Nederlandse Vereniging voor Seksuologie]
2.	the Flemish Society for Sexology [Vlaamse Vereniging voor Seksuologie]
3.	the Scientific Society for Sexual Dysfunctions [Wetenschappelijke Vereniging Seksuele Disfuncties]
4.	the Journal of Sexology [Stichting Tijdschrift voor Seksuologie]
The goals of the NVFS are:
1.	to create a regular forum for communication and cooperation between the participating organisations.
2.	to represent the discipline of scientific sexology in The Netherlands and Flanders in public debates; the NVFS can communicate the opinion of the participating organisations with regard to relevant sexological issues to the general public, public administration, and societal organisations.
3.	to represent the sexological field and to enhance its visibility towards the academic community and the general public.
4.	to investigate the advantages of closer cooperation or merging of two or more of the participating organisations
Regarding the implementation of the abovementioned goals and tasks of the NVFS the following agreements were made:
1.	whenever deemed necessary, the NVFS will voice the opinion from the field of scientific sexology: the board members of the participating organisations will inform each other with regard to issues that require a public response of the NVFS. If required, the president of the NVFS can receive a mandate to communicate a common reaction on behalf of the participating organisations. The board of officers of the participating organisations refer in that situation to the NVFS board for a joint response.
2.	every year, starting in 2007, the NVFS organizes a scientific conference. The major goal of this conference is to draw the attention of the general public, public administration, and societal organisations to sexology and to relevant topics in the field of sexology. The participating organisations remain entitled to organize other conferences etc. The NVFS aims at organizing a popular lecture by a national or international authority in the field of scientific sexology as a satellite activity of this conference. This lecture can also be organized as a separate activity of the NVFS.
